The great debate

Darth Vader Vs. Kylo Ren. The great debate of 2016 in my classroom. A classroom of barely 4 year olds.  A few of my boys come to school everyday in their Star Wars T-shirts and plush Yoda or Vader dolls claiming to use the force on me. Outside, I hear, “I’m Darth Vader” and “I’m Kylo Ren”.  Hold on. I get Darth Vader he’s been around a long time but Kylo Ren? How do they know about Kylo? He’s fairly new to The Star Wars scene and how does a 4 year old know about these guys anyhow as I’m sure they are not allowed to watch the movies. I’m constantly having to fend off the Dark Side as they give me the Vader stare down when asked to clean up, wash their hands or line up. Everyday they hear the same speech, “No Star Wars at school. Darth Vader has to stay in your cubby.”  I find it interesting that none of these boys want to be Luke Skywalker or better yet, Han Solo.  Nope it’s the Sith Lords they strive for. I often wonder as I secretly watch them playing with their stick light sabers, who would win that battle? Vader, because he is OG Dark Side or Kylo because he is bloodline Dark Side. In the meantime, may the force be with me.
