This coming week, my school is hosting the Scholastic Book Fair. It’s my favorite week! Not only does the book fair bring back all those elementary school memories, but the educator in me loves to see the littles find happiness in books.
I’m pretty sure when you see a book fair as an adult a little part of your heart skips a beat. Just thinking about how fun it was to bring your little snoopy wallet or your hello kitty lunch box with book fair money it and be able to just go crazy with that ten dollars! Back in my day, (as us gen Xers tend to say now) ten dollars could buy a lot of books. I would scoop up a Judy Blume or two, a scented eraser perhaps and a good Hardy Boys Mystery with Shawn Cassidy on the front cover. Shawn Cassidy is a 70’s pop singer/actor – the equivalent of a harry Styles today, just for reference.
The Book fair is still going strong. Putting books in the hands of a child is still just as important. I know we are big into digital books, but there is something about children being able to turn the pages of a book and watch the magic unfold. As adults we need that magic sometimes too.
