“It’s the eye of the tiger it’s the thrill of the fight, rising up to the challenge of our rival…” this is the song I had in my head the very first time I began exploring literary world. It’s a lot like the “Go to the mattresses” as I’ve mentioned in a previous post. This time, however, I had the picture of Rocky balboa punching air while Apollo creed yells, “Eye of the tiger man, eye of the tiger!!” or something like that anyway.
When you are writing to publish, you need the eye of the tiger because, well, it takes strength. There are drafts, rewrites, and more drafts and rewrites. Then comes restructuring and strategic planning. There are a lot of highs and lows when it comes to getting yourself published. Writing is hard work, y’all. This is why I needed a rally song. An inner pep talk. Something to keep me going when I felt defeated or deflated. What gets you to step into the ring, to push through the hard stuff? Be your own cheerleader.
So find your rally song. Those words that keep you strong. The words that give you a little kick. So whatever it is that keeps you going and keeps you writing and rallying for yourself, sing it! Sing it while you writing, sing it before you hit send on an important email, sing it when you feel you are losing you nerve. You got this! Now dust off those boxing gloves and champion yourself, Rocky!
Eye of the tiger man, eye of the tiger!!
