You know summer has come to an end when you haul out your personal classroom book collection to go through and organize for a new school year.
As I go through and hold each book in my hand and turn it over and examine it’s condition, I realize each book comes with a memory of classes gone by. Like, why do I have this random book about weather? Oh yeah, that was class where one of the student’s grandpa was a weatherman and he came in and did a presentation about it. Oh, “The Goodbye Book” because that one year my little class hamster died and we needed to understand and feel comforted in a way only a book could help. Both in and out of the classroom, I have discovered that not only does each book tell a story within it, but there is a story around it as well.
There is a saying that books are for everyone, and that is indeed true. And sometimes books aren’t just for reading, they are for holding on to memories too.
